When he was six years old, my oldest child started. When they were five years old, my middle child and youngest child both started.
When I signed up my oldest child, I did it because I wanted him to have a fun activity to participate in with children his age. He had already tried playing with baseball and didn't like it, and boy scouts weren't liked by him either. Tenpin Bowling was the only other activity. A shy child can grow by getting him out with kids in a fun social setting. It was suitable to have fun once a week, so I did not believe my son would find it overwhelming.
He began by bowling with "bumpers" on the lanes. Bumpers prevented the bowling ball from going in the gutter, so each child was assured of knocking at least a few pins down. This prevented the children from getting discouraged and quitting. At the same time, the children had trainers that taught them how to bowl. "Bowler of the month" award given to a child in every league every month has a right amount of motivation for them. To be a bowler of the month a child had to be working to improve and be encouraging to his or her fellow bowlers.
There a possibility of parties for Halloween and Christmas. In addition to that, whenever each child reach a landmark score in a bowling game (for instance, his or her first 100, 125, 150 matches or 200 series) a patch was provided to the child. I spent hours sewing. Since I hate to sew Sewing those pieces on was a labor of love! Then, at the end of every calendar year, bowling trophies were awarded (or dust collectors as my husband likes to call them).
My all children compete each other till the end of high school education. Bowling being a fun activity is a source of dedication, teamwork, perseverance, dealing with disappointment, and learning how to deal with success. And there were monetary benefits for all of them since they were each awarded college scholarship money from tournaments they participated from bowling associations. gobowlingalley
My kids all enjoy bowling. My sons are out of bowl and college for a fun social activity. My daughter is a member of her school's bowling team and is in school. She was enjoying bowling competitively.
I think bowling is a life sport that is excellent. Unlike sports like football, which can be played for a short while, bowling can be enjoyed for quite a long time. By way of instance there are senior citizen leagues with people in their 70's, and even some in their 80's, bowling each week.
